What's the role?
Etsy is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead our Seller Tools organization within our broader Seller Experiences department. The Seller Experiences strategy provides sellers with the tools and insights to have more agency in their own success, while continuing to improve our platform to grow overall sales for our seller base.

We are looking for an Engineering Director to lead an engineering organization of multiple managers across a broad range of domains and technologies. This role is an excellent fit for a leader who can work cross-functionally and make decisions that positively impact business outcomes.

This Director will collaborate cross functionally to ensure that our products are setting our sellers up for continuous cross platform growth with an increasingly international market. The team has a mix of existing products they are optimizing alongside a portfolio of next-investments they’re interested in exploring. The role will provide direction and Engineering perspective to deliver on a roadmap that improves our sellers’ success!

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering for Seller Experiences and the base salary range will be 239,000 - 311,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States who are either remote, flex, or office-based. What’s this team like at Etsy?

• The Seller Tools team balances iteration on our existing suites of seller tools with net-new investments targeting seller growth. We're looking for a leader who can balance optimizing tools like Onboarding and Insights with launching new products such as our greenfield Flutter app;
• Culturally, the team is highly collaborative and product focused with a heavy emphasis on using technology to achieve positive outcomes for our sellers.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Provide leadership and help set the direction for Etsy’s Seller Experience, operating in equal capacities as a strategic leader for the domain and as a people manager for a highly skilled team of managers;
• Collaborate cross-functionally to craft plans that achieve our seller business goals while scaling the platform to match their evolving needs. A few problems you’ll tackle along the way: creating a governance model that encourages Eng org-wide contributions to our new native app, Understanding what it looks like to onboard and grow sellers in International markets, and sending sellers timely, personalized insights.

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• You have led large engineering teams building consumer-facing web and native products;
• You have a strong technical background and can use it to steer your team to balance short- and long-term needs;
• You are an excellent mentor of both managers and engineers. You have experience leading managers through growth moments and building a “bench” to grow your management team;
• You are highly collaborative, and enjoy working with groups outside of the Engineering organization to co-create a strategy for your team;
• You communicate well and can adapt the style and detail in your communications to optimally deliver messages upwards, downwards, and broadly around the company;
• You value people who are curious, hardworking, inclusive, and responsible.
