What is Catchpoint?
Catchpoint is an Internet Performance Monitoring (IPM) platform that helps teams identify and resolve performance issues across internal and external networks with global visibility and AI-assisted analytics.

Profile

Catchpoint is an Internet Performance Monitoring (IPM) platform that provides comprehensive visibility across the entire Internet Stack, combining synthetic monitoring, real user monitoring, and AI-powered analytics to detect and resolve performance issues before they impact users. Recognized as a Leader in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Digital Experience Monitoring, the platform addresses a critical gap in traditional monitoring by observing not just internal applications but the complete data path across DNS, CDNs, ISPs, BGP routing, and cloud providers. Catchpoint operates through a distributed network of over 3,000 global vantage points, enabling organizations to measure performance exactly as users experience it from their geographic location and network conditions.

Focus

Catchpoint solves the fundamental challenge that approximately 80% of performance and availability issues originate from components outside organizational control—DNS resolution delays, CDN routing inefficiencies, ISP congestion, and BGP anomalies. Traditional application performance monitoring tools focus exclusively on controlled environments, leaving massive blind spots in understanding actual user experiences. The platform serves IT operations teams, DevOps engineers, SRE teams, and web performance engineers who require proactive detection of Internet-level disruptions affecting digital services. By treating the Internet itself as infrastructure requiring monitoring, Catchpoint enables organizations to correlate technical performance metrics with business outcomes, ensuring fast, reliable digital experiences regardless of user location or Internet path dependencies.

Background

Catchpoint was founded in 2008 by Mehdi Daoudi, Drit Makjani, Scotte Milde, and Veronica Kling, who experienced firsthand the limitations of existing monitoring tools while operating Google's DoubleClick. The founders recognized that traditional tools couldn't reflect actual user experiences or monitor beyond organizational firewalls, prompting them to build an Internet-centric monitoring solution from the ground up. The platform has grown to serve approximately 400 customers spanning major technology companies, e-commerce platforms, CDNs, and financial services organizations. In December 2025, LogicMonitor acquired Catchpoint to create a comprehensive hybrid observability solution, combining Catchpoint's Internet-level intelligence with LogicMonitor's infrastructure monitoring capabilities while maintaining Catchpoint's brand and operational leadership.

Main features

Distributed synthetic and real user monitoring

Catchpoint deploys intelligent agents across thousands of global locations spanning backbone networks, last-mile connections, wireless networks, and cloud providers, creating over 3,000 vantage points in more than 100 countries. Synthetic monitoring executes scripted tests that emulate user journeys across different browsers, devices, and network conditions, detecting performance problems before they impact actual users. Real User Monitoring complements this by collecting performance data from genuine user interactions, measuring authentic experiences rather than simulated ones. The platform supports custom scripting using Selenium, Playwright, and Puppeteer standards, enabling automation of complex workflows and integration into CI/CD pipelines for shift-left monitoring practices.

AI-powered Internet Stack visibility

Internet Stack Map uses machine learning to automatically discover and visualize all components impacting application delivery—from internal applications and APIs to external dependencies like DNS providers, CDNs, cloud platforms, and ISPs. The platform correlates this dependency mapping with Internet Sonar data, which continuously monitors the health of critical Internet services and infrastructure components, automatically answering whether performance issues originate internally or from external dependencies. Root Cause Analysis highlights the specific dependency most likely causing reported issues, eliminating guesswork during troubleshooting. The analytics engine detects anomalies using adaptive thresholds that evolve over time, enabling detection of subtle performance degradation that static baselines would miss.

Comprehensive web and API performance monitoring

The platform integrates WebPageTest for enterprise-grade website performance monitoring, providing video capture of page load sequences, filmstrip visualizations, and detailed waterfall charts breaking down every element's performance contribution. It measures all critical web performance metrics including Core Web Vitals (Largest Contentful Paint, Cumulative Layout Shift, Interaction to Next Paint) and traditional metrics like Time to First Byte and Speed Index. API monitoring capabilities test CRUD operations against all exposed resources, perform assertions on response codes and payload contents, and execute multi-step transaction tests simulating complex workflows. The platform supports modern authentication methods including OAuth and provides code tracing that identifies whether performance issues originate from application logic, database queries, or network conditions.
