What is meshStack?
Profile
meshStack optimizes collaboration between platform teams and application teams across the organization. Used by large enterprises from different industries, like Volkswagen or Commerzbank, meshStack specializes on complex IT infrastructure landscapes spanning private and public clouds as well as largely varying cloud use cases with the goal to accelerate software development. meshStack is a modular platform including an orchestration engine that is smoothly integrated with an intuitive developer portal. This integrated approach prevents tool sprawl and reduces integration and ongoing maintenance efforts for the platform team significantly. Through its powerful self-service capabilities the platform addresses application teams with different skill levels. As a result, the amount of tickets and pull requests to be reviewed by the platform team as well context switches are reduced to a minimum, leading to more focus for both platform and application teams.
Focus
meshStack simplifies platform management by representing your organization and technology in an easy way. It can model teams, projects, tags, policies, landing zones and building blocks across various platforms to provision all the tech stacks for your applications.
Background
meshcloud is a German based company founded in 2017. Since then, the three founders who bring vast experience in software development and enterprise IT projects have been building internal platforms in enterprise organizations as a foundation for the development of digital applications, even before Platform Engineering was on the technology radar. Along with its core product meshStack, the company’s Cloud Foundation Maturity Model has become a standard among enterprise IT teams, providing guidance throughout the entire platform journey independent of specific technologies. The company has been supported by the German Ministry for Economic Affairs as well as the German Ministry for Education and Research.
Main features
Central Self-Service Marketplace for Platform Services meshStack’s Self-Service Marketplace provides a user-friendly, self-service portal. It enhances the discoverability of services across platforms and tools.
With an easy-to-use interface, application teams can quickly browse and consume services provided by platform engineers without needing deep knowledge of tools like Git or Terraform.
Guided Self-Service for Application Teams meshStack enables platform teams to define and enforce policies that guide application teams when choosing platforms or services to build their applications in line with their skill level and in compliance with company regulations.
Compliant RBAC for Application Teams meshStack provides simple access management to services in its service marketplace as well as native cloud consoles. It enables organizations to define a clear responsibility split between platform teams and engineers, reducing overhead, while keeping compliance requirements through capabilities like recertification.
Budget Tracking and Cost Transparency meshStack helps application teams to track their cloud budgets and provides cost transparency for workspaces and projects. This includes cloud costs from the hyperscalers as well as third party service costs for provided platform services.
